Careers on Cruise
Cruise Lines Companies and concessions has a network of hiring partners aoround the globe to assist them in achieving their recruitment goal.
Hiring Agencies are a third party service providers; who are not employees of the Cruise Line or Concession on board.
The Recruiting Agency responsability are to source, pre-screen and present qualifieds candidates for final approval by a Recruiting Manger from the company team.
Once applicants receives an assignment, the Cruise Ship company or Concession will issue a Letter Of Employment (LOE)
The Recruiting Agency will assist new crew with all the paperwork necessary to embark successfully.
Once a new hire join the assigned ship, they become part of the Cruise Line Company or Concession onboard and will work directly with the HR office of any of the companies they have applied with and they will instruct directly on future assiggnments

the next sept is to apply for a C1/D visa, this is a transit and seaman visa that all crew members joining in US ports must have. You will need to book an appointment with the US embassy your country of residense. They are two appointments one for fingerprints and photograh and the one to your inteview with the consul, you need to have your support letter or Letter of Employment (LOE’S) as proof of your reason to travel.

HOW DOES ONE GET A CRUISE SHIP JOB?
There are many ways to land a cruise ship job. First, you must know or be certain of what type of job you are looking for or what are your skills. You will find a wide variety of jobs on board, nowadays Cruise ships are like a huge hotel with shopping mall included, with this said you can imagine the different positions to be found onboard.
Entry level positions:
Are those that do not require specialized skills? (i.e. Utility galley, Utility hotel, Utility bar, Cleaners, etc.)
Please note that many crew members who started in these positions worked their way up and eventually became managers of departments. Of course this involves a good amount of hard work, commitment and personal improvement.
Includes all entertainment jobs including Photographers, Duty-free Sales associates, Spa, Art Auctioners, Video Production etc.
These jobs require some type of training or technical knowledge.
Includes all Deck, Engine and Hotel officers, for deck or engine you must be a graduate of nautical schools.

The most effective way to get hired for a cruise ship job is to apply to an approved Cruise Line or Onboard Concession Recruiter.
Cruise Lines hires people from around the world, they work with more than 100 Nationalities as Luxury Cruise Ships are growing in numbers and sizes.
DOCUMENTS TO BRING ALONG WHEN EMBARKING
Please note you MUST have the following documents in your possession at the time of embarkation. Do not pack these documents in your checked luggage. If you are missing any of these documents you will be denied boarding . THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTION.
- Valid Cruise Line specific medical. Medical must be valid for the duration of your contract plus 30 days from the date of debarkation
- Original Security Awareness Certificate (and the other STCW Certificates if required) Copies are not acceptable.
- Signed cover page of Employment Agreement.
- Passport. Expiration must be valid for the duration of your contract plus 30 days from the date of disembarkation.
- US Visa (C1/D). Expiration must be valid for the duration of your contract plus 30 days from the date of disembarkation.
Itinerary drive visas (i.e. Schengen, UK, Canadian, Australian Maritime Crew Visa (MCV) and Australian Transit Authority (ETA), etc.).
PLEASE NOTE THAT THOSE SELECTED TO JOIN COSTA CROCIERE AND ARE FROM A SCHENGEN FRIENDLY COUNTRY DOES NOT NEED TO HAVE A VISA TO ENTER THE EU FOR SHORT STAYS.

WHICH ONBOARD RETAIL CONCESSION IS BEST?
This is a question that everybody without exception asked when working onboard regardless of the type of concession (i.e Photo, Spa, Art, Shopping, Retail etc.) it is not something new, they might have some that pays more than others but at the end of the day they are all the same, business is about revenue and reaching your target. We have crew members who tries to move to another concession because they heard that it is better than the one that they work with, just to find out that they are having the same issues they had with their previous one.
Success depends on you, you will succeed or fail anywhere, you will find good and bad managers’ the same same with your team mates just as any other job, it is up to you to strive and do the best you can in order to make your job pleasant to you and to others and reach your personal goals.
