Job Description
Provide leadership for Cruise Ships onboard retail shops to promote and model our high quality retailing standards, continuously driving maximum sales results, superior guest service, talent development and engagement. The Assistant Retail Manager must demonstrate honesty and integrity in all interactions.
What you'll be doing:
- Motivate and coach a sales achieve/exceed sales and promotional targets.
- Create and execute plans to drive sales.
- Lead the team of minimum 10+ people.
- Deliver an outstanding guest experience.
- Promote high quality retailing standards.
- Maintain excellent visual merchandising standards with high-converting displays; optimize retail sales space for maximum revenue.
- Train and coach sales team on Starboard’s standards – product knowledge, selling techniques, asset protection and guest service.
- Manage inventory with an emphasis on asset protection.
- Analyze and report sales and talent data to corporate office.
What we're looking for:
- 2+ years of flagship retail store, department store or multi-unit retail management experience with annual sales of $ 5 million+.
- 2+ years in leading a large and diverse retail sales team with a minimum of 10+ employees.
- Ability to :
- Live and work abroad on ships for 6 months continuously.
- Assess and develop talent, in order to build future leadership pipeline.
- Build relationships at all levels of onboard management, in order to partner and influence business decisions.

Job Description
The Retail Specialist is accountable to be a subject matter expert by having up to date knowledge on the products and unique offerings available onboard. The specialist is responsible for driving sales results, delivering distinctive guest experiences in assigned department or specialized functional area. They also maintain visual standards and cleanliness within the store, as well as ensure that stock levels on the floor are adequate (refilling stock as necessary). A retail sales specialist oversees monitoring their department, section, and/or floor and assisting in other departments when needed.

- Achieves personal sales goals and maximizes revenue opportunities.
- Builds trust as a credible expert through personal presence, social skills, general knowledge, and presentation.
- Seeks to build deep relationships through the guest journey by sharing stories that inspire guests.

What we're looking for:
Education & Experience:
- 1+ years’ experience in retail or hospitality; luxury guest experience is of interest.
- 6 months shipboard experience preferred.
- Demonstrated ability selling Jewelry/Swiss Timepiece relevant to the specialized area.
- Demonstrated track record for driving sales through building loyal customer relationships.
- Minimum high school diploma, associate degree or beyond preferred; studies in retail or hospitality is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Non-Negotiables:
- Must be 21 years old.
- Able to travel and live/work on a ship. Able to work 6 month contracts. Able to work 7 days a week, up to 77 hours.
- Possess a valid passport and when possible seaman book copy.
- Able to stand for long periods of time.
- Able to physically participate and effectively contribute in cruise line’s boat safety and emergency lifesaving drills as required.
- Able to lift, pull, and push boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the store and lockers up to 55 lbs. using the appropriate safety equipment as required.
- Proficient English reading, writing and speaking skills.
- STCW certification as required by cruise line.
- Professional appearance, dress and grooming according to company and cruise line standards.

POSITION SUMMARY / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Photographer will work within and learn from a team to create and sell warm and personal photography experiences that our guests can use to celebrate and share their cruise vacation. They will learn how to capture and engage our guests in a variety of settings both on board and ashore to produce high quality products sold in our Photography storefront.
They will form an integral part of a multifaceted department that includes several different Photo businesses including Portrait, Souvenir and Wedding photography along with a full retail store. Under the guidance of the Photo Management team, they will deliver their assigned image counts and sales targets while providing guest satisfaction in all department areas to achieve budgeted goals.
- Proactively greet guests in the photo gallery and assist guests in using digital photo kiosks and make selections of their favorite photos and packages.
- Clearly explain the products and services to guests and always open and close Guest interactions using effective sales techniques.
- Photograph all requested events onboard and ashore as scheduled by the Photo Manager. Meet established performance goals.
- Deliver excellent customer service by presenting a friendly, warm, and calm attitude towards guests and crew.
- Competently use and be familiar with a range of photographic equipment, including but not limited to digital SLR cameras, portrait studio equipment, computers and image editing software.
- Ensure photographs are captured correctly and tagged with the guest cabins per instruction from Photo manager and Assistant Photo Managers.
- Wear mascot costumes inside/outside the ship for photo shoots when required, engaging guests with lively energy and enthusiasm at all times.
- Uses POS to accurately charge each transaction as directed by management.
- Participates attentively in training and staff meetings with management.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
- Must be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and the SMS, and carry out the policies and procedures appropriate for his/her position.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of six (6) months experience in a customer service and/or retail sales environment is required
- Minimum of six (6) months experience as a professional photographer or a certificate of completion from a training course specific to cruise ship photography.
- Intermediate to Advanced level English verbal and writing skills, including the proper use of English grammar is required.
EDUCATION
- High school diploma or foreign equivalent is required.
- Bachelor’s Degree or foreign equivalent from a recognized educational institution is preferred. Relevant experience may substitute for this educational preference at an equivalent rate.
